Free Write Friday; What Are You Thankful For

Welcome to Free Write Friday! Find out how to participate by reading the complete introduction here.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and as we approach this holiday, we must remember that it is not just about Turkey and stuffing but, it is a time to reflect on the past year and give thanks for what we have. Family, friends, a roof over our head, shoes on our feet and in these times, our job even if it means your working a graveyard shift waiting tables in a diner. If it is paying the bills, be thankful.

This weekend, take time to really look at all you have. It may not seem like much to some people, but it deserves to be acknowledged. Ask yourself, what if all of it were taken away tomorrow? Then your beater car that you have to boost off half the time, well it just might be that you find yourself wishing you still had it when your walking to the grocery store this winter. I say this because many times, we forget how to appreciate things and we find ourselves complaining and staring at the greener grass in the neighbors yard.

You may have heard me use this quote before, as it is one of my favorite’s so, I have no trouble in sharing it again. “I once cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.”

This edition of FWF asks you to ask yourself what you are thankful for. Is there something you have that you complain about but, if it were to go away how would that affect your life? This could be a job, a car even a person. Think about it and then write! Tell me:

  • what or who it is
  • why you complain about it
  • what you wish you had instead
  • what would happen if you lost it

Remember, this is a free writing challenge so just rant as you would if you were sharing this in your journal or with a friend. Ready? Set, WRITE!
