with her feet dipped in memories
on the dock where summer lied
against bare skin and
sweet, pressed lips
she recalled the time his hand
pilfered her heart
only to flick her from his palm
and she cursed August
for the hazy drug
he slipped into her water
and for the sky she filled
with credulous dreams

Sweet
The picture complements the word perfectly!
Very nice indeed, you tell a great story and drew me in before I had realised what was happening
My second visit to your site. A beautiful piece and image to go with.
So beautiful!!!!
“on the dock where summer lied”
Don’t know why, but that line just ‘got’ me.
Bittersweet, but beautiful words.

you rock,
have fun!
this piece is epic!
Glorious images in this short poem. And I must say, you had me at the title. Love the line “on the dock where summer lied.”
Great poem
You got me on this one. Speechless at the emotions and memories evoked. Thanks for sharing.
Oh Wow – really powerful under the slightly dreamy quality
Thanks, Jo! Happy you liked it!
a fun place to be, dreamy write.
Thanks, Natalie.
Such a warm and beautiful write,
, Thank you, much appreciated, WS
Thank you, John ♥
Kellie, you had me in the beginning…with her feet dipped in memories
on the dock where summer lied, just a beautiful, romantic picture you painted..
((hugs)) Thank you!
Love and summer two of my favorite things. What a beautiful poem it caresses so wonderfully together the words.
Love is like a drug and summer love is a drug that can come each year. Your poem explains it so well and brings back many memories. Truly a wonderful and well written poem of how sweet love can be and then how sad it is when it ends.
A very sweet story for this weeks Theme Thursday. I hope you will play with us each week so we can experience even more.
Thanks again.
God bless.
Wow just so beautiful

I absolutely loved this
You made me a fan by your writes too
Reminiscent of both summer romance and the ruse that summer will never end.
Lovely.
Hmm…summer lovin’…nice while it lasts? LOL♥
On the dock where summer lied…love that line. In just a few words you have told the story of summer love…Great work!
Very nice, Kellie! You told a whole story in so few words, and it was great!! HUGS and blessings, Terri
Oh this one is just awesome. Loved every line
. thanks for your feedback Kellie, hugs <3
As always your words speak to me! This is a great verse and I feel like there could be a part two or perhaps a prequel to this…
Kellie, your poems are beautiful. There is emotional depth in the simple scenes you describe, people in nature, verse light and captivating as the flight of a butterfly through a magic back yard.. This is what I aspire to in many of my poems. I will be back to read more.
A heart-dropping letdown when he “flicked her from his palm”. Beautifully executed feelings in this.
nice…love me a little sitting on the dock of the bay…smiles…angela nailed the lines that struck me as well…
Beautiful poem. I love the images it conjures up for me. By the way your blog itself is gorgeous– I’ll definitely be back!
Nice. Great imagery here!
Amazing what beauty there can be in the art of sadness – especially where love is concerned! But the experience of discarded love is not for the faint-hearted!
Oh, haven’t we all been there? Well written …
I always love all the colos at your place.
Sad. I know what it feels like.
nice, sweet, sad but yet strong at the same time
thanks for the visit!
Sweet and mystical. A brief outline of thoughts for a lost summer.
Powerful and sad Kellie, it says so much in such a short space.
this gives me a feeling of completeness in its uncompleted story. it’s short, but the story that you actually tell in it is so much longer than its content! wonderful job here, Kellie!
Wonderfully done, thank you for sharing.
Happy Rally!
You got my “Made-my-day” button for your comment on my blog, now you get my “WOW” for the day. This is awesome, Kellie! You have such a way of making simple situations seem so real and alive; and most of all down-to-earth. I love your stuff!
Beautiful… reminds me of a certain memory, and I can smell the pine trees. thank you Kellie
the promise of the titled is fulfilled here– nicely done!
Immediately after I read the title, I broke out into silent song, Sitting on the Dock of a Bay. Once I had got that out of my system, then I could read properly
The image with your words just connect with each other perfectly here. The words reflect the sadness of the image, or the image reflects the sadness of the words?
Beautiful! I especially love these lines: “and she cursed August
for the hazy drug
he slipped into her water”
