Free Write Friday; What’s Your New Year Resolution?
Welcome back to Free Write Friday! New Here? Read the intro!
It’s mid December and we are all looking forward to kicking off a new year. Making changes, moving on, letting go. January first brings many resolutions to the table. It’s the time of year when it starts sinking in that another year has passed and we begin to reflect on things we either did or did not accomplish, things we wish we had done differently, things we intend on changing in this next go round; and so we make our annual New Year’s Resolution with the best intentions, charging in gung-ho and and on track until slowly, like a dying battery we…give up. Sound familiar?
A New Year resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. According to Gretchen Rubin (author of best-seller “The Happiness Project”): “You hit a goal, you achieve a goal. You keep a resolution” (source: Wikipedia)
O.k., your writing prompt this weekend is ta-da! New Years’s Resolutions! Consider Free Write Friday your diary, your confidant. What are your plans, goals, dreams, hopes for 2012? Do you have a horrible habit you are determined to break? Or maybe, you would like to share a past resolution that you actually stuck with and achieved, giving the rest of us a little encouragement this year! Whatever the coming year brings to mind, tell us about it! Looking forward to your entries and reading what YOU have in store for 2012!
P.S. I am trying out the inLinkz posting system this round. If you have any problems using it, please just simply post your links in the usual manner (by comment reply). Otherwise, I hope this little froggy will be a good friend! Have a great weekend!
Now go write!

I made my list. I purposely kept it short to insure a better success average than I have had in the past.
The inLinkz works great…but what a huge time (380 days) before expiration.
Happy Friday, Kellie!
lol yeah, that is because before the link system, I had stated that my past FWF prompts will never close so that people may visit them at a later date. so I stretched it out as far as I could
I admit, I don’t like New Year’s resolutions. I’m a do-it-now person!

My writing group met recently, and one member said she doesn’t make resolutions but sets goals. I rather like that perspective, because I never keep resolutions but I sometimes manage to meet goals. In keeping with that, I made one regarding writing and posted it on my blog. I’m glad you’re thinking about writing goals too. In addition to writing, I’ve also got to reach some personal goals–weight loss (already in progress
), career, and relationship. Heavy plate for the coming year. Today I’m looking forward with my chin up. Best to you and your readers in the coming year as well.
I was just saying the same thing to Charles. Baby steps and small goals are the best way to go. Aiming too high at once can be discouraging and one may never get to experience the satisfaction and the sense of accomplishment which is what aids in growth, initiative and self worth. I strongly agree with you!
Hey, Kellie! I don’t do New Years resolution–never have–but never fear; I have a plan!
Got to go do lunch with some folks right now, but I’ll be back with something for you before the five o’clock whistle blows!
Have fun!
Hi Kellie,
What a wonderful idea for a blog post! Awww…new years resolutions! Gotta love ‘em, right? Well, first of all, I’d love to lose the 15 lbs I found earlier this year, that has stuck with me! Secondly, by starting my poetry blog, I’ve been enjoying a wonderful creative outlet and am still humbled and amazed at the recognition I’ve been given. I would love to submit some poems to contests or maybe even for publication; it would be great to get that idea off the back burner. If you have any ideas or feedback, please send them my way.
Thirdly, our dog passed away in November and we’re still missing her so…maybe in the new year, she would want us to find a new canine companion. I hope that doesn’t sound too silly, but she was with us for 9 years and a part of the family.
All in all, I would love to improve in my writing and hope to continue inspiring others…thanks so much for listening and for sharing your magic with us. Have a wonderful Friday!
Lauren
Thanks! …and I too would LOVE to shed some weight and I am taking steps toward doing so, like with water for one, I am drinking more water now than I think I ever have. Just losing the calories from my sodas alone should help quite a bit, at least I sure hope so cause man do i love my Coca-Cola
…as for your pet, I am so sorry! It is not silly at all. Our dog is a part of our family and I couldn’t imagine losing him. He has such personality and we have grown so attached to him so, I completely understand. Good luck on finding a new addition to your family although I am sure he/she will not be a replacement.
Best wishes as well on your ventures with your blog! You mentioned you are looking to submit some of your work for publication… Winter Goose Publishing is accepting submissions through the 31st and will not open again until May. You might try sending in some samples and just see what they have to say. They are an amazing group of people and very encouraging. If that is an avenue you wish to pursue, I wish you the best!
Thank you for your feedback. Have a wonderful new year!
Kellie
Thanks so much for your feedback, Kellie, and I wish us both the best with losing the lbs! My vice is sugar, cookies, chocolate, etc. I drink a lot of water, so that’s not a problem, but I do need to step up the exercise. Here’s to a successful 2012!
I’m glad you understand about what a pet can bring to the family…enjoy your dog, and I really appreciate your feedback on the publishing…I will try to submit some samples before the 31st…I appreciate your help!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too!
Lauren
