Welcome to Free Write Friday. New here? Read the intro. Everyone else, let’s get started.
Here is your FWF prompt:
Happy Valentine’s Day. Today is a day to celebrate love. We buy flowers and candy and those three words get used in song, in poems, on cards and as whispers on the earlobe. But let’s not forget the most important thing, the most beautiful thing about love… what it feels like.
This is not your typical “describe, define, what is love” post…so keep reading.
You remember… that stirring inside that sparked it all? Sadly, we forget what love feels like, and over time, the butterflies become harder and harder to stir. Their wings become heavy and lazy in the day to day routine of it all. The monotony of jobs and bills and kids and well, life. What a shame. What a true pity it is to be capable of feeling such delightful, even fiery emotions and simply let them lay dormant and all to often, we allow them to die. Then next thing we know, we are bitter, hopeless, seeking marriage counselors, and sometimes, divorce attorneys. All because we didn’t take the time to feed love. Because we were too busy feeding the beasts of life.
Take this time now to find a quiet place and close your eyes. Remember that flutter in your belly. Picture someone who used to stir your heart. See their eyes, replay that first kiss, the first time you touched hands, the first time that the word love was placed in between I and You and fell from their lips. The first time you heard it, the first time you felt it, how it crawled your body and caused you to tingle in places you didn’t know you could and tell me like I have never ever known love. Describe it to me. Make me want to feel it so bad I crave it in my bones. Tell me…how does it feel?
I love you.
