#FWF Free Write Friday: Modern Day Fairy Tale

Welcome to Free Write Friday. New here? Read the intro. Everyone else, let’s get started.

Here is your FWF prompt:

“Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” -C.S. Lewis

When Charles Perrault sat down to write Cinderella, I’m pretty certain he didn’t know the tale he was weaving would become a timeless classic told and re-told over many generations. But Cinderella continues to live happily ever after…after all these years. Talk about leaving your mark on the world. Now it’s your turn.

Write a modern day fairy tale. It can be completely fictional or a life experience you consider to be your own fairy tale.

Below is a basic guide to follow. You know how fairy tales are told, so don’t dwell on it too hard. Now, just go for it. This is still a free write exercise, so just go with the flow. Consider it your rough draft. You can polish it later on. But do not devalue this draft, as the first scribblings of anything hold the most truth…and the most magic.

Once upon a time…

  • Hero or Heroine
  • Bad guy/villain
  • Mission
  • At least one obstacle
  • Reward

…and they lived happily ever after.

  1. Thank you for this guideline to writing fairy-tales…I jotted it down to put to use in my next writing workshop piece. I need to write a story about superhero me and my arch-nemesis working together to overcome something that they can not defeat separately. :)

I think this outline will help me to accomplish the story.

    Thank you, Kelly!!

Thanks for reading...
